The Nectar presented this single cask of Arran from 1996 at the most recent edition of the Spirits in the Sky festival, last November. After the maginificent Arran 1996 that Manny and I bottled ourselves for MMM I was very curious to this one. But this is clearly a sherry cask, such a dark liquid! Mouthwatering from the start.
Wonderfully sweet and creamy, but also very rich nose on butterscotch, banana, peach, coconut, mirabelles and dades. I operative word is succulent. Very aromatic and round, a veritable fruit bomb. I am flabbergasted.
Great body. Fruity, spicy, creamy, it has it all. Dark and sweet on dades and apricot pastry, upholstered with hints of coconut and some mint, but also brown sugar, espresso, cherries… ginger, liquorice, black pepper and nutmeg. The balans is quasi perfect. Boy, what a fantastic dram!
The finish is very long, spicy, but mostly deliciously sweet.
I hate to admit it, but this is actually the best Arran I have tried to date. Recommended!
