The Arran Malt Bourbon Single Cask has grown on me after a shaky road getting here. It took me a while to figure it out, but tonight I think I have and my appreciation for this scotch has elevated considerably. It is very light in colour, straw. The nose is bold with wet charcoal, vanilla and soft smoke, all splintered by the sting of phenol. It gets even bolder after sipping it. Steak spice, cinnamon sticks and cloves hot off the BBQ. Sweet vanilla and melon mellow things down. Honey dew, granny smith apples and smoked trout stick around for a good, long conversation. It was wise of me to be patient with this whisky. I could have missed out on something very pleasing.
