Last week Balblair distillery has released a 2nd batch of their 1975 vintage. The new expression has been matured in American Ex-Sherry casks (rather than European ex-Sherry casks of batch #1 ) and is bottled at 46% , NCF, and no additional colouring added. Nose: Starting quite zesty with orange peel, some old bookshelves, Like entering a very old library with old wood shelves, chairs and tables, some wood resin. Tropical fruit sweetness, with a dash of honey, Sultanas and apricot. add a little wood spice, a sprinkle of cinnamon and you’re done. Can’t ask anything more from this nose. It’s Astounding.

Palate: Now let’s dive in. Oak a plenty, with ample malt, and dried loveliness of sultans, a citrusy edge, and plenty of old wood. The oak and lovely zest are well integrated and It feels soothing and prickly at the same time. Some chocolate covered nuts and candied fruit, with a touch of exotic fruit here too.

Finish : fruity, zesty with a touch of cocoa powder and oak.

An excellent dram.I like this style very much (cheers, Stuart), and would love to have this one added to my whisky self (as long as it’s not stolen – don’t even ask!).
