Nose: hints of fruit, some sweet berries, and cinnamon spice. Lots of buttery toffee.
Taste: full-bodied and creamy on the tongue, becoming dry at the back of the mouth. The fruit is subdued, but the oak is not.
Finish: a long vanilla-caramel fade.
Balance: for a seven year old this one majors in oak. For all their claims of reinventing the Canadian style, the makers of Bearface have presented us with a rather typical premium Canadian whisky, to compete with the likes of CC12 and Gibson's 12. The corn-and-wood combo just doesn't seem that invigorating when compared to the high-rye offerings currently available, but for those who enjoy the more typical style this one does offer extra richness and flavour. The wine casks are much less pronounced here than in Red Cask, but the overall effect is of 12+ years of maturation. Not sure I'd pay full price again but could consider it on sale.
Thanks for your review. I liked this one more than you did, but your notes seem pretty much in line with mine. Given that this isn’t crazy expensive, I feel that this is a whisky that one could keep around for when you’re in the mood for something sweet, easy-drinking, and smooooooooooooth
