This could be very informative! I also find the independents a hard jungle to navigate

Hart Brothers Clynelish 14 is the best that I have had and saw a bottle in Rochester for $80 a year ago. More recently, Nozinan has recommended the Gordon & Macphail Caol Ila Cask Strength which should go for approximately US$100.

@JayRain To be clear, I haven't endorsed any independent Caol Ila... I indicated that I had enjoyed the OB CI CS.

@JayRain I'll happily endorse the Gordon&MacPhail Cask strength Caol Ila, the 2004 one was so good I bought two bottles .

Bump this thread!
Also, does anyone have any experience with Signatory's Clynelish releases? I've been eyeing a 1998 15yr old from their "Un-chillfiltered Collection" and it's looking to be my next purchase but I can't find anything on this one specifically.

In the past five years I've been immersing in the single malt world and I've learned and tasted quite a lot (still I feel I'm an advanced beginner). But I'm a rookie when it comes to independent bottlers.
I recently tried Exclusive Malts Ben Nevis 17, G&M Mortlach 15, and Signatory Hazelburn 8, and I loved them all. I learned there is a fantastic Laphroig 18 Signatory CS Sherry... but I can't tell if an IB I see at a store is good or not...
Can you put a list of the best independent bottling you've tried, ideally not impossible to find and under $100?
