I would suggest Twitter. I decided to start a new Whisky Club in Stroud, Glos last month. I hit Twitter and now 5 weeks on I have 200 followers, my first meeting in next week with 6 members attending and 15 people who have expressed an interest but can't make the first meeting. I have no idea how many will be regulars but it should be a bit of fun.
I set up a single web page at www.Stroudwhiskyclub.co.uk and tend to expand it as the club progresses. It took 15 minutes and is my first web page so I'm pleased at how it looks so far.
I have found a local pub happy to host and are even laying on nibbles for free. Several pubs have asked if we would use them so there is interest out there.
It will be interesting to see how it goes. Connosr is a great resource with many knowledgable members. There is a Manchester Whisky club who gave me some sound advice as they are recently set up and over subscribed now.
Good luck. Tom

@muckrum The site looks good. I might have to change my web set up as yours looks great. Seems like Twitter is working, you hit 100 in 5 days which is great. My figures were about that and you just have to keep tracking locals now to drm up interest. We found Glenfarclas were great for supplying free water jugs, and taste notes. If you find any generous distilleries PM me the details.
Keep in touch and all the best with your new venture. Also, if you want to get cheap bottles try Costco, they have some bargains but not enormous range. Lagavulin 16 for £38 is good in my opinion.

Cheers for the support tjb! I haven't contacted distilleries or suppliers yet as at the moment I am waiting interest to build up. Maybe in June after first meet I'll have an idea of numbers expected and get busy. I'll let you know of any friendly Distillers (and thanks for the Glenfarclas tip.)
Re Twitter, most followers don't seem to be membership interested but hopefully will carry the proverbial word-of-mouth.
Cheers!

@whiskeygirl Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the link does not work for me. Tried Googling but nothing even vaguely connected came up. :-(

@Nolinske That goes without saying! But where exactly in Connosr is the best place to advertise? That was actually my initial doubt...

Is it possible to get it on whiskycast somehow? That has a dedicated set of die hard enthusiast listeners? Maybe email mark at the whiskycast comments address I think it's comments@whiskycast.com

@Nolinske That's an excellent idea. I'll do that! Cheers for the help!

Hi All,
I am starting a new Whisky Club and would like some advice on best online places to advertise meetings.
I am using Meetup.com to start with but I am not sure if that is the best option. Also where else should I advertise?
All comments much appreciated!
Cheers!
