Black Bottle launched a new series in 2021: Alchemy Series. There are already 2 batches available. This is batch 1 that was christened Black Bottle Double Cask. That leaves little to the imagination, of course. The malt component of Black Bottle was finished in former sherry casks, while the grain component matured in red wine barrels. That ensures that it is very nicely bronzed.

Just like the classic Black Bottle expression, it is particularly soft on the nose with hardly any peat smoke. He mainly has to deal with banana, marzipan, red lace candy and hazelnuts. Nice, though.

The body is on the light side. A tad too light for my liking. Red fruit, candied fruit, marzipan, roasted chestnuts and licorice are wrapped in a smoky jacket. Cloves, turmeric and sweet chili are the spices on duty. All in all, this is not bad, though. Enough going on to be engaging, without really getting big.

The finish is medium-long, warm and dark-sweet with soft smoke until the death. And then suddenly becomes a bit bubblegum-y. Oops.

Call it the Black Bottle with a red twist. Better than the classic. Available for 30 EUR.
