- Brand: Blackadder
- ABV: 60.1%
- Batch: Cask DI 2017-6
My friend Anthony – lover of Arran and Glen Moray – surprised me at my birthday tasting with a box of sample of which I will try one today. After all, it’s St Patrick’s Day. This is the whiskey Drop of the Irish – bottled in 2017 – by Blackadder. The have released quite a few of these ‘drops’. This one is a single cask at cask strength.
The nose is creamy, but light. Only some white fruit and white bread. Vanilla and grass. Hint of pineapple and lemon. But in all honesty fairly flat. Despite the high ABV, it does not burn.
You would not realise the high ABV on the palate either. Now I first get some white fruit (apples, pears), immediately followed by some lime juice. And then suddenly a big spiciness appears: white pepper and liquiorice. Midpalate it turns sweeter againi on winegums and a touch of banana;
The finish is medium long and spicy and a tad zesty and sharp.
The label mentions no age, but nose, palate and ABV suggest a young malt. Not bad, but not great either. Thanks, Anthony.
