Let me try a couple of Blackadder bottlings. After all, they are all pretty good in my book, bar a few. Let me start with this undisclosed The Legendary, a 14 Year Old Speysider. It came from a sherry cask that yielded 356 bottles in October 2009.
The nose is sweet and fruity, but somewhat soft. I would not hurt to be a little more expressive. I get both orchard fruit and dark fruit, loads of caramel, some beeswax and nuts. It contains a whiff of flints and maybe even a trace of smoke. Nougat and mocha. Pineapple cubes. Light hint of coffee.
It is nicely creamy and honeysweet. Berries, strawberries, raisins, dades. Soft on the spices. Touches of oak, making it somewhat drying. Again that hint of smoke, that is quite appealing.
In the (unfortunately short) finish, the smoke returns.
A very good middle of the road Speysider, but nothing spectacular. Legendary is hardly the word I would use, though. But it would not do, of course, to lable this bottle The Ordinary, of course.
