- Brand: Blackstone
- ABV: 40%
The Blackstone 8 Year Old is a single malt sold by discount shop Aldi. The distillery is kept secret. It is said to be a Highland single malt, so not to be confused with the Canadian Blackstone whisky.
The nose offers cookie dough, citrus, vanilla and nougat with a mild floral hint. White chocolate? Unfortunately also quite a bit of cardboard. Not my cuppa.
The taste is rather light, devoid of any spices bar mint and sweet on citrus and Golden Delicious apples. But unfortunately the whole is drowned in a chemical sweetness that makes is quite cloying. A bit of a letdown.
The finish is medium long on more of the same, which is not something to cheer for.
I cannot get rid of the impression that the distillery involved sold its lesser casks to Aldi (and thus does not want its identity revealed). This is a little sticky dram with a chemical off-note. Nevertheless, thanks, Pat.
