I tried my First Bladnoch only two months ago. It was a 21yo from 1990, bottled by Malts of Scotland. I loved it. A month later, I was part of a select group of whisky aficionados that was invited to select a cask to be bottled for the 5th Anniversary of The Bonding Dram, a local whisky shop. Again, a 21 Year Old Bladnoch came out on top (together wish another whisky, that will also be bottled in a few weeks – stay tuned). We did not realise it at the time of selection, since we tasted the cask samples blind.

The clean nose starts on candystore and cotton candy (cane sugar) and a wonderful combination of white and yellow fruit. Think pears on syrup and a slice of pineapple. Hints of nuts and butterscotch. Creamy.

After a somewhat hesitant start, it opens up nicely on the palate. Again creamy and sweet with loads of vanilla. Very fruity on grapefruit and pineapple. The oak shines through. Some liquorice and a pinch of pepper. Nicely balanced. The medium long finish is very zesty and fades on vanilla and brown sugar.

This Bladnoch is very much worth your while and I am not just saying this because I am one of the twenty names you can read on the back label. Available for 85 EUR at The Bonding Dram.
