David Stirk’s Creative Whisky Company recently restyled their Exlusive Malts range. I think the new bottles and labels look fantastic. Hopefully that can also be said of the contents. In this case, it is a Bladnoch 1992 at cask strength. This is the 5th Bladnoch bottled by CWC. Coincidentally it is also the 5th Bladnoch that I try.
Lovely fresh yet waxy nose on pineapple cubes, gooseberries, freshly cut grass and some lavender (albeit at the back). I also get hints of grapefruit and other citrus and some breakfast cereals. Agrum and tonic. Classic Bladnoch nose, I would say.
Sturdy attack with loads of pepper and oak. Tremendously zesty! The agrums from the nose return. So does the quinine. It evolves from bittersweet to salty and back, like a yo-yo. But it certainly is good. Creamy, almost. Nice hint of vanilla that puts it back on the sweet track.
The finish is zesty, bittersweet and spicy. It lingers quite long.
Wonderful Bladnoch that needs no water. Recommended.
