Gordon & Company has bottled quite a few gems in their aptly named Pearls of Scotland series. This Balblair certainly fits that bill. From 1991, this 24 Year Old Highlander was bottled in September 2015.
Fruity nose on juicy pears, Pim’s jam cookies with oranges and some apricot marmalade. Goosberries. Very sweet, but very good. There is also a green touch as if from ferns and a hint of toasted oak. Evolves towards pear liqueur.
Good mouth feel. Nice on pear juicy, but also quite a bit of citrus now (zest included), blueberries, rhubarb and a truckload of spices. Ginger and pepper are in the lead, which I find just a tad sad, as the fruit was so nice on the nose…
Beautifully long, but quite piquant finish on more ginger.
Great nose, but on the palate the spices are to dominant to my taste. Nevertheless a very nice Blair Athol indeed. Thanks, Peter from Anverness!
