Every smart bottler will include an Islay whisky in any release. Malts of Scotland included two. An 11 Year Old Bowmore and a 13 Year Old Laphroaig. I will try the Laffie later. This is already the 12th Bowmore bottling for Malts of Scotland. It is very pale and sticks to the glass.
On the mild nose, the typical citrus is easily overpowered by wonderfully earthy tones, farm scents and some wild flowers. Not as maritime as I would have expected. Nice smokiness thanks to a perfect dose of peat, which supports and does not feel the need to control. Hay and vanilla are present too. Clean.
On the palate this is very soft. This is 58,2% ABV? Could have fooled me. Dangerously quaffable; The maritime notes are somewhat more pronounced now. Tight peat, big spiciness. Some more citrus, now. Oak and silt counter. Nice balance. Ginger, nutmeg and some white pepper.
The finish is nicely smoky and very long. Equilibrium perfectum between sweet and salt.
Grand Bowmore. Lovers of Bowmore are going to enjoy this immensely. Reminds me of the almost legendary Bowmore Tempest Batch 1. I find this one even better!
