Amazing Casks was supposed to become a special range within the Malts of Scotland franchise. Thomas Ewers and Luc Timmermans would be selecting these from time to time, but due to circumstances only one bottling was released about two years ago: Bowmore 1995.
The nose is warm and spicy. Mild peat and brine, but mostly sweet berries. Currants, gooseberries, blackberries. You get the pictures. But also quite a bit of pomegranate. No, wait, make that baked apples, sprinkled with cinnamon. This is indeed an amazing nose!
Sturdy attack, but what did you expect with this alcohol percentage? It is creamy and rounded, allowing the sweet and salt to battle for supremacy. Whatever the outcome, the taster is the winner. Some vanilla and honey join the fray. The peat remains discreet. Heavy on the spices.
The finish is long and heart warming. The battle between sweet and salt rages on.
Come on Luc & Thomas, launch a few more of these, for old times’ sake?
