The Nectar, Belgian importer of loads of spirits and organizer of the wonderful Spirits in the Sky festival, went all out for their 10th anniversary. Loads of special bottlings have been releases, too many to list them. But this is one of those, from Signatory. A lovely Bowmore from 2000, at cask strength.
The nose is clean and very fruity. All kinds of tropical fruits like pineapple, mango and papaya, wrapped in a mildly smoky blanket. It is surprisingly waxy and offers hints of marzipan and a drop of sea water.
It offers a nice arrival with a grand development of smoke, spices and peat, but immediately the tropical fruit rears its head, easily overpowering the maritime elements. Oh, this is grand.
The finish is wonderfully long, fruity sweet with a bit of soot at the death.
Excellent! It reminds me quite a bit of the Bw4 and Bw6 from Elements of Islay, which I tried before and quite liked. This one is just as good, but again the price tag is a bit of a let-down. Over 200 EUR. Ouch!
