Once upon a time I went to a tasting and this was the last whisky of the evening. a Cask strength 21 year old Bowmore, bottled by AD Rattray, matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry butt. Only 547 bottles were released and this was from cask nr 2063 We were told to take a big gulp and twirl it around like mouthwater. I remember getting tears in my eyes and sparks in my head from this brutal experience. I told my girlfriend about this and a few weeks later I went to bed after she left and I felt something weird under the blankets. Exactly that same bottle :D Thanks babe
Nose: complex old wood, brambles, cherry, wet thick smoke, roadtar, woodpolish, tobacco iodine, rainy pine forest, winterspices, musk, volcano.
Palate: an immediate blast of ripe forest fruit, vintage port wine, smouldering peatfires, cigar smoke, ash, old wood, resin, beef jerky, walnuts and candlewax. It keeps evolving for minutes without losing any steam.
Finish: a very long, dry and bittersweet symphony with the whole flavor spectrum mentioned above floating by like memories of a great vacation.
This is still by far the best whisky I ever had the pleasure to drink. So strong, rich and concentrated it boggled my mind every time I drank it.
Find where to buy Bowmore whisky
Thank God, you didn't jump into your bed, that would have ended in tragedy. You've sparked my interest, the local shop apparently still has some 3 and 10cl samples from this very whisky in stock, will put it on the shopping list.
