- ABV: 66.1%
- Batch: Cask #83
This single grain of the Belgian distillery Braeckman matured for 12 years and was drawn from a single barrel. The ABV makes me gasp for breath already. 66.1% ABV? Oh, my! The nose is honeysweet on grain cookies, vanilla, almond paste, silver polish (!) and praline filling. But you would not guess this is bottle at such an ungodly ABV, it is that soft. Surprising and very inviting. It is creamy and mouth coating, but now it does show how powerful it is. Nevertheless, I do not feel the urge to add water. Nice integration of alcohol indeed. Marzipan, grain cookies, vanilla galore but also some woodshavings and white pepper. And it’s all good. No wood glue or varnish, which I sometimes get in young grain. It’s very clean, if you ask me. Midpalate some sweet popcorn and some nougat appear. The finish is very sweet and peppery, but lasts a wonderful eternity. Great grain from my neck of the woods. Braeckman clearly has good stuff, but unfortunately the price is very steep. This will set you back some 85 EUR, which is an awful lot for only 50cl. It’s a good thing it’s this good.
