Buying own cask?

I’m thinking of buying a cask of whisky of my own. Does anyone have experience of doing this? I know that Glenglassaugh sells 50 litre Octave casks (www.glenglassaugh.com/caskownership.htm). If you have done this, I would appreciate any info you think is the best way forward and which other distilleries provide this kind of product.

Many Thanks, Karl

I have no personal experience, but on the Bruichladdich site I saw they sell casks...

Karl, I visited the link you provided, and found the process and restrictions interesting ... especially the FAQs for octaves. Out of curiosity, would you like to share with us your motivation, plans and goals regarding having your own cask ? Thanks !

I’m afraid I can’t be of any help with advice here, interms of personal experience but I will say that I have seen the Glenglassaugh Octave casks and am very tempted indeed. As far as I’m aware there aren’t currently any other distilleries offering octave casks for sale which probably makes Glenglassaugh the most affordable of those offering cask ownership (I stand to be corrected on this). A word of caution however, it must be remembered that there are a number of costs to be considered once the cask is at the bottling stage, tax and the cost to bottle the cask itself can be quite a sum.
