Cambus 24 yo (Bladnoch Forum)

Moving back in time to the remains of my Bladnoch bottle share samples. This time we’re dealing with Cambus (Camb-what?! you ask?), So, yeah. Cambus WAS a grain distillery located in the lowlands and was closed in 1993. Most Single malt snobs (mainly those who don’t have a clue) do not drink Grain whisky, although those who have tried some old and good grain whiskies will tell you they can be brilliant. So, do yourself a favor and consider trying some older grain whiskies if you have the chance. Some are worth your while, and will deliver a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This one is a lovely example, not the best grain I’ve tasted, but certainly its very well made. Ok, back to the dram. distilled in 1985 and bottled in 2010 at 52.7% ABV, it was bottled by the Bladnoch Forum and sold at a reasonable price of around EUR 60.

Nose: A lovely burst of vanilla, with a certain balsamic quality to it. hefty amounts of Coconut and some Banana bread, with an addition of ginger powder that adds a bit of spiciness to it all. A good example of text book Bourbon barrel maturation and grain characteristics. Palate: Alcoholic with bitter wood and quite some of that! Vanilla and some Coconut again. Reminds me of vodka. Yes. Grain vodka. But with that woody edge. Finish: Oak wood and spicy finish.

Not a bad example of good old grain. Not Exceptional, but certainly offers a nice opportunity to try an older nice single Grain. Try getting hold of a sample if you are keen on whisky and would like to experiment.
