Although the name of the distillery is kept secret, it should not be too hard to guess, right? There’s only three in Campbeltown. It’s a young whisky. Distilled in 2014 and bottled at the age of 5 in North Star Spirits’ 9th single cask series. After a regular maturation on former bourbon casks, it got a finish on PX sherry casks.

A somewhat weird sweet nose with a smoky edge, a bit waxy with some caraway and butterscotch. Sea breeze and chewing gum – a weird combination. Then some freshly ground coffee beans and rye breakfast cereals. This is so funky, it can only be Glen Scotia, right? Very funny and pleasant.

Nicely oily, almost syrupy on the palate. Boy, this sticks to my teeth and for a moment becomes honeysweet, as if I have put a spoon of candy syrup in my mouth. Very intense on honey, figs, dades and apricots. Suddenly some salt & pepper. It goes up and down, but is very enjoyable indeed. A dirty egde again reminds me of Glen Scotia. Lovely trace of smoke. I am a fan.

The finish is very long, in which caramel lingers and apricots simmer in smoke. Cinnamon at the death.

Very nice Campbeltowner, but very sweet. A dessert for X-mas Eve and goes great with (read: in!) a black espresso, trust me. Around 65 EUR, which is not cheap for a 5 years old whisky, but it’s worth every penny.
