I guess we know Claxton’s best for their single cask releases in those typical square ‘perfume’ bottles. But this is something special. In their so-called Exploration Series they released this young blended malt in 2020, comprised of Campbeltown whisky’s that matured on a PX sherry hogshead.

Ooh, lovely nose! Funky to say the least. Red fruit, bubblegum, freshly ground coffee beans, rye bread, caraway and a whiff of sea air. Baby breath. Fruit porridge. Very amusing and pleasant.

Nicely oily and immediately sweet. Candied syrup, red fruit, honey, figs, apricots, salt & pepper, big smoky edge… very good. But very, very sweet as well. Almost candy-like. Almost feels like I simply put a spoonful of candied syrup in my mouth. But very spicy too. And a great trace of smoke. Yes, it’s quite funky on the palate as well. My guess is Glen Scotia is the leitmotiv here.

The long, warm finish is sweeter still. My teeth almost fall out of my mouth! But very satisfying.

Boy, that was amusing and tasty! You can still find it for some 55 EUR. Recommended! Thx, Benny.
