Bourbon is very popular in Portland these days. My boss has tasted quite a few bourbons. He owns a few decent bottles of bourbon, so he's not a complete "heathen" when it comes to whisky ; )

I think your safest bet is just going with the Longrow CV. Can't really see him being disappointed with that one!

Longrow CV was my favourite of the bunch though I did also like the Springbank CV less peaty but still very nice. I found the Hazelburn CV to be a little bland. Anyway I think your safe with the Longrow CV it is a nice whisky.

Just picked up a "The Campbeltown Malts" sampler with three 200ml bottles of the following: Springbank CV, Hazelburn CV, and Longrow CV. I've tasted the Longrow CV before, but not the others. I'm quite pleased with the price and the size of the bottles. I paid $45 for it in Oregon. I already own an unopened bottle of the Longrow CV.
Has anyone tasted this sampler or any of those three scotches separately? The Chairman's Vats don't have an age statement, BTW.
Any favorites out of the bunch? I will be attending a party tomorrow night, and I plan to brink one of the bottles as a gift for the host. He is a newbie and has very little familiarity with scotch but I gave him a boost with a 100ml bottle of Glenmorangie Nectar D'or last Christmas as a gift. It wetted his appetite, I think. Since I already own a full sized bottle of the Longrow CV so I was thinking of bringing that for my friend to the party but then I thought I might as well ask y'all's advice. Maybe it's a weird one for a newbie to try.
Personally, I like it, and I thought it might give my friend (and boss at work) a chance to taste something a little unorthodox. He is from New Mexico, so smoky "tequila" overtones are no stranger to him, even though good single malt scotch is. None of the three types of Springbank CV scotch can be purchased in Oregon as full sized bottles any longer, so they are sort of "collector's" editions in a way. I've always been intrigued by Springbank even though the Hazelburn is quite expensive here. Most of the whiskies from Springbank Distillery tend to be on the expensive side in Oregon. The older and more exotic Springbanks can easily get up towards a buck and a half ($150).
