Anyone have any thoughts on Clan MacGregor? It was recommended to me as a decent blend, and at first, i really didn't like it. A bit of a bite, overly alcoholic, not too complex. But what can you expect for a $12 bottle, right? However, I went back and had another dram, this time neat with no water. A fruit explosion!! Fig, pear, raisin, amazing sweetness. Overall, my first impression was not good, but I really like this now. Still a bit too much alcohol, but good for $12. Any comments on Ballantine's finest would be appreciated as well.
I had put this into a tasting of entry level blends - usually used as mixers, but tasted neat for comparison. Clan MacGregor finished in the middle of the pack. I can't remember exactly were it fit (there were 12 brands) but it was above Cutty Sark and Dewars but below J&B and Famous Grouse.
