The Clydeside Distillery is the new kid on the block in Glasgow owned by the Morrison dynasty, which we all know from Morrison-Bowmore Distillers. One of the founders of the distillery is Tim Morrison, son of the legendary Stanley P. Morrison. In 2016 he began to fulfill his dream of building a brand new distillery in the old Pump House next to the river Clyde. Obviously there is no whisky yet, but the new make is already commercially available in bottles of 20cl. Thanks to my friend Anthony I could give it a try.
The nose is a bit creamy but clean. A soft mix of molten butter and cooked vegetables. Reminds me of a horse stable. Malty heart with a surprisingly salty note, it seems. Some mustard seed? I quite like it.
On the palate, this is a classic new make, but already it shows a very sweet side. Crystal sugar, almost. Somewhat warming from the alcohol and softly spicy. Some earthy notes. But surprisingly creamy. A silky soft texture.
The finish is warm, sweet and becomes very spicy now. Black pepper at the death.
Yes, this is very pleasant. Seems to me this is a great spirit to matured on second fill casks for the best result. Thanks, Anthony!
