Hey Everyone, I wanted to bring up the topic of commenting on whiskey reviews. I am new to this website and really appreciate the community feel it brings out of people. I just personally wish that more people would comment on whiskey reviews. I have written 3 so far and have not received any feedback. It would be interesting to either receive support on my reviews, feedback (whether positive or negative in a constructive way), or just hear about other people's thoughts on the whiskey that I'm reviewing. Does anyone else feel this way? Please, I invite you to come and read my reviews. I will continue to read all of yours and comment regularly. Cheers!

Looking at the 3 whiskys you reviewed - I haven't tried any one of them.

So...How about them Habs?

@ewhiskey I can indeed understand you because I had the same thoughts. So I sometimes wish to get some more feedback, no problem if it's negative. Just to know what one is able to improve or could think of while reviewing.

On the other hand you cant tell/force people to comment. We have thousands of reviews here and daily new ones are written. So it's nearly impossible to read all (well ofc that's not the point) and if you read one you either don't know the bottle or you just don't have anything to say. I for myself try to comment a lot if I have something to say. Just want to give something back.

If you continue to post and be involved in Connosr, more people will recognize you and read your reviews more often, and perhaps respond to them.

Thanks for the feedback. Wills, you're right, you can't force people to vote. After I read your comment, I also realized that the website can be viewed without a membership, so many of the people reading reviews cannot comment either. And valuewhisky, thanks for the advice. I will continue to involve myself in the community. I'm also realizing now after re reading my original thread that it came off as a little bit whiny. I ultimately just wanted to encourage people to comment in general. Not necessarily my reviews, but I noticed a lot of reviews haven't received feedback. But you're right, I will earn my way into the community. FMichael, the Habs story begins to tell itself tonight.

I usually only comment on things I have tried or am considering trying, otherwise it is hard to have a basis to comment. Othertimes ,there are so many reviews for a particular whisky like Glenfiddich or Glenlivet 12, that I have already tried that I kind of give up the idea of commenting. I do think it helps to be known at least amongst a circle of people here.

@ewhiskey I agree with the problem you describe, and can also feel a little down if pour my soul into review and there is zero response. But I also think that there's not really any way around it. You can write the most informative text ever about a bottle, but if the people that come across it don't have it on their radar they won't click. Even if I read a good review of a bottle, if I haven't got any info to add, agree with or contradict I have no reason to comment. You will probably find comments on you reviews sometime much later, months or even years, when someone is looking for that expression, or have them selves discovered something that correlates or disagrees with what you found. Joining discussions is also a good way to get people looking your way, so this thread is working for your advantage :)

@Ewhiskey the more you do, the more out there you are, the more people comment :D I found it took quite a few reviews before people started posting on mine. I really wish I had more time to scan through whisky reviews and the forum, but right now I'm so busy that I'm just getting caught up on discussions right now haha.

I just took a look at your reviews though, they look good! However can I please make a suggestion? Try and break up the nose, taste and finish into separate paragraphs. It's alot easier to read as it's not just a wall of text and makes it more inviting for people to want to read your reviews. I personally find that when I'm confronted with a wall of text that sometimes I tire out and move onto the next review.

However I love how descriptive you are! So many reviews are basically, it's good and I liked it, which when I'm hunting for reviews on whiskies I've never tried, are completely useless to me as they don't often say WHY they liked it. Tasting notes help and I think you did a good job!

@ewhiskey I'll offer a little different vantage than the others:

I track whiskies I've tried in a database, but I don't write reviews or notes. When I'm trying to figure out whether to try a whisky I'll refer to my database to see if I've already had it. I often wish I'd written something, anything about a whisky's taste and why I liked or didn't like it. Can't remember everything.

If you start early in your exploration of whisky to document your reviews here you'll always have a place to go to discover what you thought. Along the way if others discover your notes and comment on them so much the better.

Enjoy the journey.

@two-bit-cowboy Very good point. I make that listing you mentioned here in the cabinet section, so I check the tasted to see if I already had it. Well now I can remember them but I will forget some for sure. Would be nice to have a searching or listing functionality there ;)
