There was a nice write up on John Glaser and Compass Box in the Jan/Feb 2016 issue of Wine Spectator magazine. Not super informative but enjoyable read anyways. And did cover briefly some of transparency issues and challenges between CB and industry watchdog(s).

Interesting add-on to this discussion on the Laddie website

bruichladdich.com/article/…

As of April you are going to be able to see the vatting detail of every batch of Classic Laddie once you enter your bottle code.

@paddockjudge - Thanks! Signing on to Twitter has not been the disaster that this Luddite thought it would be. :)

Anyone here who is on Twitter should consider retweeting companies like Diageo who are members of the SWA, since the SWA won't start lobbying the various political bodies until they get a mandate from their membership.

I had a pour of Port Charlotte An Turas Mor last, night, and will make a Compass Box bottle my next purchase, in support of CB's and Bruichladdich's efforts.

Signed it! Compliments to Compass Box for starting this and Bruichladdich to hook on. It's time to stop the hiding and open up. I'd love to know what they put into the Glenlivet Founders Reserve, 3 yo, 5 yo? I don't know and I'm not buying! I'll go for Benromach 5 yo, just for there opennes. Bruichladdich Classic Laddie is top on my wishlist when they publish the batch contents on there site. I'd love to see Ardbeg follow, would be great to know what;s in the Uigeadail.

I'm more than happy to sign this petition and hopefully we'll get some success. With the SWA involved I wouldn't put money on it though!

As is often the case with NAS-related issues, good discussion of this topic is on the All Things Whisky blog:

www.allthingswhisky.com

Spoiler: There's a lot more skepticism from that crew than there is here on Connosr.

It would be interesting to hear SWA's answer to the question ''why shouldn't you be allowed to specify the contents of your own product?''

@Alexsweden - one reason that I have seen (pretty bogus, imho) is to the effect that the law that would need to be changed at the EU level is one that actually applies to all forms of spirits, so it would be too difficult to have all spirit producers, and all 28 (?) EU countries agree to the change for the sake of Scotch. My counter-argument...why doesn't the SWA just lobby for a rule change that is applicable to whisky only, or Scotch only? We'll see what happens...

Agreed, @Pudge72, sounds pretty bogus. One - the rule obviously has been put in place so changing it is not impossible.

Two - like you say, the swa could lobby for a change only concerning whisky. It is called the scotch WHISKY association and I've never heard about them taking action against vodka makers making illicit moves..

Three - have anyone ever been informed of the actual paragraph that would have to be changed. Does it say ''it is illegal for liquor producers to specify the contents of their product'' or what?

It seems quite obvious that the rule is put in place and upheld to the benefit of the corporations and not the consumer.

@Alexsweden - sorry I didn't have time to look up the link to the actual regulation, but it is apparently Reg. 10.1 of the 2009 version of the Scotch Wednesday Regulations.

@Pudge72 So are you saying that Compass Box is free to do whatever it wants on the other 6 days of the week or are there even stiffer regulations?

For instance, do the Scotch Friday Regulations ban any mention about Chill-Filtration, and the Tuesday ones do not allow ABV?
