Bit of a rant this!

I always like to try a few whiskies from a few new distilleries every year and so when looking for new whiskies to try i came across Craigellachie. I'd heard the name of the distillery before but never seen any of their whiskies on sale.

I was stunned by the price they are asking for their whiskies. In particular their 17 year old at £92 in the UK on MoM.

I can get a bottle of Old Pulteney 17 for around £75 ditto Talisker 18. Both whiskies I've had several bottles of over the years and know to be consistently good. Why would I spend 20% more on a whisky I'd not heard of a few months ago and have no idea if it's any good or not? I've read some reviews including on here and they all say it's good but not amazing.

Am I missing something? Surely if you want to charge a premium for your product you first have to establish with your customers that you have a premium product. Which you do through years of selling a consistently high quality product. Not just take over a floundering distillery, update the packaging and then say 'give us more money our products better than everyone elses' without any objective evidence to back that up.

Seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot to me. If their products were priced at a similar price points to comparable products on the market. I would have brought a bottle . If I'd have liked it I'd have brought a second bottle and so on. But through their being greedy I won't buy a bottle and so they've missed out on a potential customer.
