When I first saw an ad fort his NAS expression by Dalwhinnie, I could not believe my eyes. ‘Drink it straight from the freezer!’, it said. It would make this dram creamy and fruity. Seriously? Sorry, but that is not how I drink my whisky. So chances are this review will not reflect the true nature of this malt, as mine comes from the cabinet, without cooling.

It is fresh and fruity on peach, bergamot and vanilla. Some honey and ginger. A leaf of mint. Hint of coffee and fresh caramel. Brown bread. Nice nose without being grand.

It is quite creamy, in fact, but also honeysweet. The fruit is again mostly oranges (mildly bitter, sweet and sour), followed by loads of honey and wood notes. Think ginger van vanilla. Pear drops. Tastes fairly young, which does not have to be bad per sé, but this one has little going for itself.

The finish is medium long, again bittersweet and quite syrupy.

Well, my expectations were very low, but in the end it is not all that bad. It is already creamy and fruity, so I can imagine this is enhanced when you cool it significantly. For those among us with a sweet tooth.
