Yes, the bottle of Dewar’s Signature is quite easy on the eyes. Robust bottle in a luxurious box. But then, it is the premium blend by Dewar’s, comparable in that respect with the Johnnie Walker Blue Label (with regards to positioning and price). The owners say that it even contains whisky that is over 40 years old. It was composed by the 6th Master Blender of the company, Tom Aitken. We heard through the grapevine that the heart of this blend is actually 27 year old Aberfeldy. It is nice to know that the blend, after it was composed, got another few months on oak casks to marry and integrate.

The nose is rich and aromatic, nicely rounded on vanilla, toffee and caramel. Add some red and black berries, drenched in honey. Very sweet indeed, but very good. It has a green element too. Think heather and pine needles.

The arrival is surprisingly fresh, but very sweet. It is also very soft on the palate. Smooth is the word. Again berries with honey, vanilla and caramel, but also some orange zest and mandarin from a can.

The finish, which is quite long, offers some woodsmoke and leaves the mouth dry.

Very pleasant whisky with the emphasis on Speyside sweetness. Between 120 and 300 EUR (what a fork!), depending on where you look.
