At the risk of sounding all "promotional", I know this sort of thing is exactly what Connosr folk are interested in, and as we're putting this on as a bunch of non-commercial whisky enthusiasts we've got to get the word out through every channel available to us! So, here goes...
Dramboree is very much the enthusiast's weekend: put together initially in 2013 by a couple of guys who love talking & tasting whisky, we wanted an alternative "festival" which caters for the person who's already been to the big room full of exhibitors, and would like a little more time to spend with their drams and with the other people around them who are similarly interested in their whisky.
This year we're doing it on July 3rd, 4th and 5th.
The key idea is that many whisky fans have those bottles in their shelf or cupboard which they bought to taste "at the right moment" or "with the right people", but haven't actually managed to crack them open yet. We thought we'd create that moment. With everyone bringing a bottle (or 2, or 3, etc) that they want to share we end up with quite an interesting tasting table, and one which (so far) is well-pitched for all sorts of whisky fan. There's no queues, no drinking up times - just a leisurely weekend to enjoy nice whisky... with a few key extras.
Naturally the weekend's set in a picturesque part of Scotland - what better place to appreciate nice drams?
Because we're all interested in our subject matter, we couldn't let the opportunity pass to put together some interesting tasting workshops on Friday and Saturday - we're very excited about Friday's tasting, which we're calling "Unreleased Distilleries". A great opportunity to learn more about some of the intricacies of production and talk to real distillery folk about what they do an why they do it.
We've also arranged an exclusive distillery experience for Saturday, which we can't say too much about yet but we think everyone's going to find very memorable indeed.
It's not a huge number of people - there'll be around 70 of us, which makes for a nice sociable weekend where you get to meet everybody. The people who come along are from a variety of backgrounds - last year we had people from whisky clubs in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, some journalists, some bloggers, collectors, retailers, people working within the whisky industry, and a few randoms who'd just found the website and thought it sounded like a hoot.
We think that the best thing about Dramboree though is how easy it all is to get involved in:
The meeting and dropoff point is in Edinburgh this year. We take care of getting you to the site, getting you to & from the distillery on Saturday, and then will have you back in Edinburgh on the Sunday.
Meals (including hogroast on Saturday evening) and bunkhouse accommodation is part of the ticket
The ticket price also includes the tasting workshops, distillery visit, souvenir tasting glass, and you'll have the opportunity to purchase our Dramboree bottling once it's ready, as well!
Tickets on sale on Wednesday March 11th - £190 per person.
