To be completely honest, @JoeVelo, I wasn't too impressed with any of the Edradour whiskies I've tried (you can check my notes on this site). My preferred expressions (in this order) are the 1996 Natural Cask Strength Ibisco Decanter (57,2%), the 1998 Sassicaia (56,9%) and the regular 12 Year Old 'Caledonia' (46%), but again, that's not saying much. None of them got 85 points in my book.

The only Edradour that I have tried is their Ballechin Port Cask Matured (46%), and I am a huge fan of that.

@Peatpete I have not yet gotten round to trying any of their peated expressions, I admit.

Thank you very much for the quick reply @markjedi1 . I will get all the replies sorted out and make up my mind.

I highly recommend the straight from the cask bottle. They have numerous wood expressions in that line and I have only had the standard one which was matured in sherry casks. It is a 10 year expression at cask strength. I bought a bottle at the distillery in 2006. I loved it. It had a great mouthfeel. The only way I can describe it is meaty, chewy. I may have order another bottle....
The standard Edradour 10 that we get here in the states is ok, but not anywhere near what I described above. I also have owned the 10 year non-chill filtered from Signatory bottlers. It was ok as well. I was disappointed in Ballechin (highly peated Edradour) #4 finished in Sherry casks. It had rubber on the nose and palate. Not good.
Hope this helps.

Strange, I always though Edradour was the worst distillery out there (and I've tried 110+ distilleries) and now it turns out there are actually people who like it ;-) My main problem with Edradour is the innate sulphured profile. Anyway I would suggest to stay away from extravagant finishes (Sassicaia etc.) and focus on the more common versions (e.g. Sauternes).
The big problem with Edradour is that batches are so small that it's not possible to give a real advice. I've had one Sauternes finish that was okay and another one that was pretty horrible. Hit or miss.

@WhiskyNotes Edradour was not appealing to me at first since it doesn't generally have good reviews either by Jim Murray or feu Michael Jackson. But, on the other hand, the fact that it is such a small distillery with small batches made, I want to give it a try. Maybe I'll wait some time. There's so much more to discover.

I plan to buy an Edradour whisky in the near future. Their selection is quite astonishing and I can't make up my mind on a particular bottle. I am not afraid of the cask strength. What do you suggest?
