@GotOak91 Great question I would have to say 50% Islay 40% Speyside 10% Highland these are the regions that I enjoy the most. Although this is not set in stone. :)

@PMessinger This is true, nothing is set in stone.
@Nolinske I agree but Islay is first for me but due to price Bourbon would be first especially Elijah Craig 12, one of my favorites.

Islay without question . . . I want to love the Highlands . . . and the other Islands . . . and Campbeltown . . . but I always come back to Islay and my mouth tells me, "This is where you belong."

In my opinion the best place for whisky at the moment is Japan. There is a reason Japanese whiskies have been winning so many awards in recent years. Unfortunately, other than Yamazaki and Hakushu there isn't a great deal of availability in markets outside of Japan. This is a real shame, there are so many great whiskies being produced here.

Picking one region is far too limiting, so I'll have to list three that currently fascinate me.
Scotland, Islay region. So many great whisk choices, like Ardbeg, Laphroiag, Caol Ila, and Kilchoman.
Scotland, Highland region. Independant bottlings of Dalmore, distillery bottlings of Edradour, Glenmorangie, and Old Pulteney.
3.Ireland, Midleton to be specific. Powers, Midleton, and the spectacular Redbreast whiskey!

The Whiskies I prefer tend to all come from coastal distilleries.
Islay, of course, but also Arran, Springbank, Jura, Oban, Old Pulteney, HP, Scapa, Glenmorangie, Longmorn. The only coastal Whiskies that I am not very fond of are Balbair and Talisker.

@MacBaker62 I can understand that picking one would be hard. I did contemplate making a top 3 list type of question.
@FMichael Never heard of it lol...
@CanadianNinja I have heard glorious things about Japanese whisky. Unfortunately haven't tried any though but I know where I can go for it though.

This is a question regarding your favorite whisk(e)y making region and why? This question, by the way, is regarding all whisk(e)y makers. I.E. Bourbon, Tennessee, Scotland (Be specific to inner region), Irish, and etc.
My favorite is the Islay region of Scotland. I completely enjoy the bold smoky, earthy, and the gentle subtle barrel influenced flavors. Its an experience that takes me exactly to the Isle. Its like a liquid imagination supplement.
