Fercullen is a brand marketed by the Powerscourt Distillery, founded in 2018, in Wicklow, a few kilometers south of Dublin. While their own production matures gently in the warehouses, they buy whiskey elsewhere and bring it to the market. In the glass is the Fercullen 20 Year Old Five Elements that matured on a mix of Oloroso, PX, Marsala and Muscatel casks.

The nose is already promising. I get a fruit porridge of banana, lemon, plums, pineapple and mango. There is a big drop of honey in it, as well as a handful of nuts. Vanilla galore. Very sweet and accessible.

Lovely body. Nice and creamy. In addition to banana, I now mainly get the candied version of some citrus fruits with mandarin and lime in the lead. A true fruit cocktail, though. In terms of spices, it is limited to the most necessary to give the malt some warmth and depth. Great balance!

Long, sweet and particularly fruity aftertaste with a little vanilla custard on the deathbed.

Wow, that was a very pleasant surprise. Thanks, Manny!
