Filliers will soon launch a new product. It will not be called Goldlys this time. They put their marketing department to work to give their Belgian rye whisky a whole new story. Sunken Still is a tribute to the employees of Filliers who sunk the copper pot still in nearby Rekkelinge river during the Great War, thus making sure the enemy could not use the material for war. Nice story, nice packaging and almost nice price (around 30 EUR for a 50cl bottle). It matured on bourbon casks for four years.

I am immediately reminded of bourbon on the nose. Caramel, cough candy, nutmeg. A floral touch that reminds me of violets. Some cherries. Wood shavings and a hint of wood glue.

Good mouth feel. Nicely creamy and sweet. The spiciness is excellent, in fact. Nutmeg, upholstered by some black pepper and a pinch of cinnamon. Even some coriander. The sweetness is not exactly fruity, but rather from caramel, vanilla, butterscotch and toffee.

The finish is rather short.

Nice rye whisky from my neck of the woods. Nothing earth shattering, but completely flawless. Very easy drinking.
