Finlaggan

I have just bought a bottle of Finlaggan Old Reserve. It is an Islay Single Malt from an unknown distillery. I have tasted it and it is good especially if you consider that I paid 35$ for this one. I had fun trying to find which distillery it might be. Being a big Islay lover, I have tasted malt from all the distilleries on Islay, some of them only for a few drams, others for several bottles. It is peated and has a particular chemical/rubber taste that I had found in only two dram I have tasted before. The two drams happen to be two Bunnahabhain. One from Douglas Laing and another one from Jewels of Scotland collection distilled in 1979. So if I had to put money on this guess, Bunnahabhain would be my first guess without hesitation.

I looked at what has been said on the Web and I saw all sorts of things, but none having the same guess as me. I have read funny things too, like one guy saying that it looked like Lagavulin 16. Keep trying buddy!

So, is anyone has tasted it and what distillery do you think it comes from? I think it is a good everyday dram, since for that price, it is hard to find a Islay Single Malt. Do you agree ?

The last time I tried Finlaggan (7+years ago?) it was definitely Lagavulin. Not a 16, more like a 7. I may be wrong but I was willing to bet on it at the time. And it was wonderful!

I can't imagine how it could be kept a secret, someone on here must know. I agree that it is hard to find a good peaty Islay for that price.

I heard that it may not be always the same distillery. They may change over the years according to the casks they are able to buy. I am not sure this is true though.
