  • Brand: Glen Els
  • ABV: 45.9%

Glen Els is a German Whisky distillery and to be more specific it is Hercynian Whisky. The Tawny Port I tasted is from Cask No. 143, distilled 3.6.08, bottled 16.12.11 with 45,9 % and is limited to only 406 Bottles. Yes, it is quite a small distillery and they are just distilling whisky since 2002. Before that they made fruit schnaps which is really common for the small German whisky industry. Never had a Glen Els before but read interesting stuff about the drams they are producing. So I was really curious...

The nose starts strong on wine aroma with raisins and a noticeable alcoholic touch. Continues very fruity with limette, vanilla, kiwi and gin-aroma.

The palate is wine-like with bittersweet tannins. Again raisins which are attended by plums and milk chocolate. It has a high viscous body with legs in the glass.

The finish is warm, long, fruity and a bit oaky.

Overall it is a solid whisky but it is just an average one for my taste. Too distinct wine-flavor. Stay tuned for my review of the Glen Els Ember which is really more interesting...
