I admit that my experience with Glen Scotia is few and far between. This is only my 15th. For the longest time, this was the least talked about distillery in Campbeltown, but the owners have clearly decided to relaunch the brand again. I say ‘relaunch again’ as they already tried it in 2012, but it seems that was not a big success. The bottles, with bright colors and the image of a big cow, were not exactly eye catchers on the shelves. Now they went for a more sober style – less is more – and released among others this Double Cask. It is a mix of bourbon and PX sherry casks. The nose is tremendously fruity on cherries, apricots and pineapple in tin. Prunes? I do believe so. Loads of toffee as well. Almonds, raisins, crème brûlée and toffee apples. This is a liquid dessert on the nose. Good body with loads of sweetness and spices. Think pepper, nutmeg and ginger. The PX has a big say with dark chocolate, oranges, dried peach, raisins and dades. Maple syrup. The finish is medium long and offers up some leather and more toffee. Very fine Glen Scotia for around 40 EUR. Surprisingly good and affordable.

The disco cows were "not exactly eye catchers on the shelves"? First I've heard that take on it! Sure, they were ugly, but they weren't exactly bland. :)

And you've tasted "only" 15 Glen Scotias? Heh. You're surely in the 99th percentile of whisky drinkers on the Glen Scotiometer. I'm excited just to crack my #2 and #3 sometime this fall.
