- Batch: Virgin Oak Barrel #469
Not so long ago Glenallachie – sorry, GlenAllachie – was taken over by Billy Walker, but this is a distillate from before his reign. Distilled in 2008 and bottled at cask strength for the Belgian importer Premium Spirits. It’s a virgin oak barrel that yielded 270 bottles.
On the nose it’s a wonderful stew of all kinds of yellow and orange fruit. Mango, pineapple, pears and blood oranges. The whole is sprinkled with a truckload of spices, giving it warmth and breadth if you know what I mean. Lovely nose.
Nicely oily and very fruity. Call it tropical. But very spicy. I gasp for breath. Black pepper, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, liquorice, it goes on and on. But the balance is kept. The fruit seems juicy and sweet, turning this into liquid candy.
The finish is long, warm and spicy.
Great GlenAllachie for sure. Good choice by Premium Spirits. Around 85 EUR and still to be found. Recommended.
