At a very reasonable £65, single malt scotch of this age is hard to come by. Independence has its benefits i suppose.

Matured in bourbon and olorosso sherry casks this whisky is then vatted in small batches. Sounds good so far. Now for the review.

Nose: Toffee and dark fruits drive the body of the nose. Dates and brown sugar accompany baked apple to give a deep, almost chewy nose. My favourite element to this scent is a delicate whiff of cinnamon that is easily missed.

Palate: This whisky has a wonderfully luxurious mouthfeel, with the liquid thick enough that it could almost be chewed.

Toffee and dark fruits dominate again, dates the more obvious of these. The baked apple is gone and the cinnamon fades to just the most gentle of whispers. Wood spice makes a more than welcome appearance throughout, showing the quality of the casks and adding a real depth and complexity to the experience.

Finish: A very long finish dominated by the same sweet toffee, brown sugar and wood spice on the palate. Cinnamon reappears to wave goodbye before the finish fades away.

A great scotch at an even better price. Really shows that with a little less greed, distilleries could still produce quality aged whisky at reasonable prices ... if they wanted to.

If Glenfiddich really wanted to do the customer a favor they would bump the ABV above the usual 40%.
