Nose: light fruit, especially green apples and under-ripe banana. Sweet and somewhat grainy. Hint of bubblegum. Could be mistaken for a particularly robust blend. All of the aromas are "up front", with no additional notes hiding deeper in the glass. Still, quite pleasant to smell.
Taste: Nice sweetness at first but then a bracing tartness hits your tongue very fast. Thin mouthfeel but no shortage of flavour. The fruit is not as obvious as on the nose; more vanilla and cream caramel. Slightly spicy and mouth-tingling as it sits on the tongue.
Finish: a touch bitter, with the underripe fruit returning. Long, but not really in a good way.
Balance: somewhat predictably for a young whisky, this is front-loaded, with most of the desirable attributes found in the aroma and initial flavour arrival. Light, young malt dominates this whisky with not much in the way of oak influence, though a cask selection has been employed to beef up the young spirit. Overall, not a great buy at full price, more in line with entry-level malts than the premium varieties. Worth trying if you enjoy light whiskies and can find it on clearance.
