The Glenfiddich Cask Collection is a new range for the global traveler. Three expressions were released: Select Cask, Reserve Cask and Vintage Cask. Let me start with the Select Cask, which is a marriage of bourbon, sherry and red wine casks. The casks were selected by Brian Kinsman and brought together in their so-called solera vat.

The nose is light and fresh. Mostly vanilla, barley sugars and coconut. Some spiciness like cloves and white pepper. Candied oranges. But the red wine influence is absent on the nose – at least for me.

Good body, to be sure. Very peppery and somewhat dry. No surprises after the sweet nose. A tiny bit of red berries. Could that be from the red wine casks?

The finish is fairly short.

This is clearly an entry level malt. A card players’ whisky pur sang.
