Just opened a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 year old (not the new bottling) and am surprised at the strong bourbon notes. I've drunk the 10 before but don't remember it being so bourbony (is that a word?) Is this typical?
It is matured in Bourbon Casks so it's going to have bourbon notes, however I wouldn't say it's strong. It definitely shares a similar sweetness though.
@nikkaman I'm not surprised you're finding this. The ten is a marriage of first & 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrels. So, you should be finding some of those bourbon cask notes in there...
Hey there. Slightly off topic, but Glenmorangie's two 'sweeties' Sonnalta PX and Nectar d'Or are both finished in barrels that held intensely sweet wines (Pedro Ximenes for the Sonnalta and Sauternes for the Nectar d'Or) and the sweetness comes through very successfully on both.
