Help me pick a couple "cheaper" Single Malts

Hello. I am in the market for a couple relatively inexpensive bottles of single malt. You know, an "everyday sipper" kind of scotch. I already have a good number of top shelf bottles at my bar but haven't ever even considered the less expensive options because I usually gravitate towards Bourbon if it's $30 or under.

Anyhow, here are my choices based on my local shop:

Old Pulteney 12 ... $29.99 Ancnoc 12 ... $29.99 Macallan 10 Fine Oak ... $29.99 Ardmore Traditional ... $19.99 Speyburn 10 ... $19.99

How would you rank these? I am already convinced on the Old Pulteney 12 and figure that that is a terrific price on it. I would like to try another as well.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

Those are incredible prices for those bottles. I would gravitate towards the Old Pulteney 12 and the Ardmore Traditional. I haven't had these personally but from fellow reviewers and how they are relatively well rated amongst the masses. But that's just me. Its always up to the owner of the palate. I like coastal/peated whiskies. With a few good sherried malts thrown in. I also think Id like to try the Ancnoc but that's just me.

Man, if I could buy those malts at twice the price I'd buy 'em all. If I had to choose, though, I'd go for the Pulteney or the An Cnoc. Although for 20 bucks it would be hard to pass up the Ardmore. Cheers.

Yeah, the more I think and read about it, the more it seems like I will probably buy the OP12, Acnoc12, and Ardmore all in one shot and from there decide which one os most worth me coming back to.

I also prefer heavily peated malts but have been coming around to other expressions in the past year or so.

Wow, what prices!

Since I don't drink every day, I prefer higher end drams less often. I would love to hear the prices for stuff like A'Bunadh, Ardbeg 10, Booker's..... And I'm sure there are people on the east coast who'd love the name of your store.

Wow, your local store must be locked in a time warp, and I mean that as a compliment. Those are 2006 prices or better.

I know only the OP and anCnoc from personal experience, and I'd buy a case of both at those prices. Macallan was once among the most revered single malts, but it has an "iffy" reputation nowadays. I'd add the 10 Fine Oak to my cabinet at that price, however. Haven't sampled enough Ardmore (an IB 11 yo is the only Ardmore I own) to comment. I'll probably pick up a Speyburn eventually. It's another with an inconsistent reputation, although some regard it as a great bang-for-the-bucker, and Ralfy had some good things to say about it recently (see: tinyurl.com/knwfjsb).

Heavily peated stuff? I'd love to see your local shop's prices on Ardbeg, Lagavulin, and Laphroaig. Do they have a website? Are they within reasonable driving distance the next time I visit my brother in Albany? (At those prices, I have a broad definition of "reasonable.")

Well, I just got back. I took one for the team and purchased OP12, anCnoc 12, and the Ardmore Traditional Cask. I also snuck in a bottle of Clynelish 14. ;) I am eager to try these three affordable single malts and see how my palate stacks them up against the big boys.

To those wondering about my local store, they do indeed have a website; which I wasn't even aware of! Here it is: www.yankeespirits.com ...The Attleboro location is close to me.

I also have this great place who have tons of hard to find stuff and great prices, for the most part, as well: www.joyalsliquors.com ...I just recently scored a couple bottles of Laphroaig QC here for $41.99/bottle. You can't beat that with a stick.

I usually pick the place with the cheaper price on whatever I am looking for and go there. Prices on whisk(e)y from store-to-store vary WILDLY from my experience but these two have the best prices around where I live; not to mention a great selection.

@KRB80 You're not kidding about the prices ! I went to Yankee Spirits and saw the Ardbeg Ardbog for $89, which comes out to less than 70 euros. Even in Europe, this is a very good price.
