Highland Park 21yo VS 25, 30, 40

I've taste the HP whiskys only occasionally but I would buy a bottle. I prefer take few and (relatively) expensive bottles insted of a wide range of young whiskys.

The my doubts are especially between the HP 25yo and 30yo. The 40yo begin to be heavily expensive for the my wallet and I can value the purchase only if there's a great qualitative difference among the 25 and 30 yo. The 21yo could be also a good choise but only if better of 25yo and 30yo.

Advice?

Thanks for the help (!)

The 21 is quite a different beast to the others, with more fire and smoke than the older versions. If you like the more mellow and sherried end of the HP spectrum then I'd stick with the older ones.

@RicketyCricket I've had both 25 and 30. However only the Old version of 25 (50.7% version) and the 30 was the current 48.1% version. They were both extremely amazing in quality (let's just say they were in my top 4 out of over 100 whiskies sampled) I gave the 25 one point higher, but still very equal. Not sure what the new version of the 25 bottled at 45% will be. I'm interested to hear if anyone has tasted both 25's.

@Maltmark Very thanks for the info. The old bottle of HP 25yo 50.7% is too difficult to find, then necessarily I'm interested at the valuation of the current 45% bottle. Could be still ahead at the 30yo... (?)

Something about the 21 and 40yo? (for the other members)

(in my previous comment I, of course, meant the 21 rather than the 12)

Between the 21 and 25, I prefer the high abv 21...I've not has the 30 or 40 though...there is a law of diminishing returns on OB bottles that old for me (other than Glenfarclas)

@RicketyCricket I do believe you're over thinking this. If the subtle differences are that important to you, read a lot of reviews and make a decision from there.

As for me, I've only had the 30. It was remarkable, but I doubt I'd ever buy a full bottle (I had a 50 cL taster). I don't think I could justify the expense. And the 40? I'd rather just buy a Glenfarclas 40. Great whisky, more reasonable price.

But hey, that's just me.

Er, I meant 50 mL taster. You get the idea...
