I've been talking to an importer here in Australia and he's informed me (not sure how accurate this is) that stocks of older Highland Park, Macallan and a couple of other distilleries are dwindling. To the point where within 2 or so years time you won't be able to buy older expressions of these distilleries, at last for 4 or 5 years time until supply heads back up as younger whiskies mature. So possibly the drop in the abv is due to this?

I just splurged by buying a bottle of Highland Park 25. I purchased it at the LCBO. I was excited about adding this to my growing collection, as I have done a lot of research on the bottle. It mentions on the LCBO website that the 25 year old is 48.1% abv. However, when I got home, I opened the bottle and noticed that it had been bottled at 45.7% abv. I had difficulty finding out why the abv has dropped. Is this due to dwindling reserves?
I found that this bottling is a late 2012 release. My question here is, will the lower abv greatly change the consistency of this whisky? I have read that HP does an excellent job at maintaining consistency between various batches.
