If they are educated Scotch aficionados try something like Octomore, Amrut (IS, Portonova or one of their single casks),
If they like name brands, try JW Blue.

@broadwayblue, if it's available to you I recommend something Japanese. It really makes little difference what expression or year. I find Japanese whiskies carry a lot of cachet when giving them as gifts. Whisky drinkers love them because they know how good they are, and novices love them because they come with a degree of uniqueness.

Given broadwayblue's purpose, I can't think of anything better than Macallan 18. Maybe JW Blue.
For the lower bracket, I suggest whatever current JW now occupies that positon. Gold or Silver or Platinum or whatever.

Jim Beam 'Devil's Cut'...Just send me the $175, and I'll even throw in the gift wrapping for free....
On a serious note...For the $150 to $200 range - I haven't a clue since I rarely spend anything over $90 on a single malt.
I'm also of the opinion that age/name mean nothing when it comes to scotch whisky; IMHO some of the best single malts are from the lesser known distilleries that are no more than 14 years of age.
Now - in the $75 to $100 range...Balvenie 15 yr Single Barrel, Glenfiddich 18 yr, Aberlour 18 yr, Old Pulteney 17 yr, Highland Park 18 yr, and Oban 18 yr.

Almost forgot...
Wine searcher . com
That site is a great place to find a good price on single malts/wine/whiskey.
Many places offer discounts on shipping if you purchase 6, or more bottles.
Some places that offer good pricing that I've purchased from...

Glenfarclas 25 will be the best bang for your buck! Only $119 locally for me anyway. And who wouldn't be impressed with 25yr scotch as a gift?

Something in a distinctive bottle is always nice. How about Old Pulteney 21. Nice bottle and excellent contents.
I think I would like to be one of your clients @broadwayblue. I don't care what it is you would do for me, just sign me up for the Xmas prezzies. Cheers.

Glenlivet 21 Wooden Box or Bushmill's 21 are very exquisite expressions that easily fit the $175 condition.
For $75 to $100, perhaps Glenfarclas 15 or 17 or 21, Old Pulteney 17, Lagavulin 16.
@broadwayblue, good luck choosing from the fine suggestions put forth by solid Connosr members.
Season's greetings. pj

Looking for some suggestions in the $150-$200 range. Quality is important, but brand recognition is too. Ideally when these top clients open the gift they should easily recognize the bottle as being "top notch." Macallan 18 immediately comes to mind...but was curious what you all thought might be worthy of consideration as suitable alternatives?
