Essentially cool, dry, out of the light. In non-Ideal conditions some people put plastic wrap and or tape over the cap. Some whiskies have wax seals. They should be ok.

Keep them in their cardboard box/cylinder...On the shelf away from direct sunlight, and with central heat/air - my wife enjoys a consistent 70 F all year long.

I keep them in closed boxes/cylinders too. Another trick I do is to grab silica gel packs whenever I come across them and toss them into the cylinders. It's humid here, so I like to think that helps a bit.

So you go out and spend big on a few bottles of whisky that you value and cherish. What are the ideal conditions for storage? Do you store them in the kitchen, the closet, the basement, the bedroom? Does the cork form a perfect seal, or do some additional considerations need to be made during long-term storage?
