Great shout @smokeybarrels. To all our friends on the East Coast of America, we hope that you and your families are safe over the next 48 hours. Batten down the hatches and keep a good bottle of whisky at hand.
From everyone at Connosr

Thank you, @smokeybarrels, @Jean-Luc, et alii.
Interesting storm, ...it is now snowing in West Virginia. There are some predictions for as much as a foot of snow in the mountains of West Virginia. This is the only combination "tropical storm/snowstorm" I have ever seen.

Thanks for the kind words. I am in southeast Pennsylvania and things are not too bad yet. It's supposed to peak this evening I think for us. I have to check Connosr now in case the power goes out! ;-)

Stay safe and dry everybody!!
The other weird thing about this storm, besides the 'tropical snowstorm' component that 'Victor' mentioned is the sheer size of the storm system. I live about 800 km NNW of 'Victor' and we are seeing winds up to 80 km/h, which, while not huge (especially to what the East Coast is going through), is enough to cause a power outage from downed tree branches. The other oddity is the expectation that this storm will end up 'sitting' inland for an extended period of time before heading north...so the rest of this week should get interesting.
The Bowmore Tempest Batch 2 sitting in my cabinet always seems to be an appropriate choice in this type of situation.

Stay safe my friends! Stay inside with your family and friends and drink very good whisky in safety. Hopefully it'll soon be over.

Safe and dry in Central MA here. We lost cable service -- which means no tv, phone, or internet -- for about 20 hours. Other than that we were fine.

It was quite stressful in the Washington DC area. It rained for nearly 36 hours and on Monday night the wind gusts around 65 mph were bending my trees and bushes so that the tips were parallel to the ground. Then we lost power around 6 pm right when my 6 and 2 year old were at the peak of what I call "unhappy hour." At that point, my sump pump had been going for awhile and I only had a limited amount of backup time on batteries so I was prepared to stay up a few nights bailing water to prevent a flooded basement but fortunately power came on about 8 hours later. The howling wind woke up my sleeping 2 year old twice. Needless to say I opened up a nice bottle from my collection tonight and am very much looking forward to going back to work and having a normal life without the stress of a major hurricane bearing down on me for a week.
