@SquidgyAsh: I can't begin to imagine what is wrong with your Macallan. The idea behind decanting is to let the Whisky come to life, to breathe a little, to 'mellow out', if you like. What can happen when a whishy has been open for a while (a week or so), unnoticed faults can be highlighted and in extreme cases extremely so! Decanting would make matters worse not better - I'm assuming that this a seriously flawed Whisky and not what can happen with younger expressions of Macallan where an overpowering oak threatens to rip your teeth out.
What I would do if it was my bottle is decant it into a couple of full size bottles and none too gently either; bubble it in so it froths up and set the bottles aside for a few weeks or preferably longer and then plug away at one of the bottles, leaving the other untouched.
What does the cork smell like, is it intact, does it provide reasonable closure? Did it come from a reliable supplier - I have seen a palette of spirits, sitting out in the noonday sun, getting nicely broiled last xmas! No names, no courtmartials!
Get in good with the girl at your local Chemist. They have all manner of bottles in all sizes: They are clean, inexpensive and come witm a bakerlite screw lid that has a cork insert...Ideal!
Dont throw any smaller bottles out. Save smaller bottles even 5ooml. size (2 hold a litre).
Good Luck! 8>)

My non-Australian answer :) would be to...drink more!! i.e. get mini bottles (200 or 375 mL bottles of mixer whiskies...or a 'gift pack' like the 3 x 200 mL Talisker collection...if it's available in your neck of the woods), drink them in good health and rinse out the empties with hot water and let them air dry. Voila...problem solved...in an enjoyable manner to boot!! :)

@A'bunadhman The cork seems to be intact with no rot or any other sort of visible problems. I bought the bottle from Dan Murphys and the first 3 or so drams have been brilliant! I'll give it another try in a day or two. I REALLY hope that I was the one having a real off day and not the whisky because I've really been enjoying it.
I'll try your decanting into 2 separate bottles. Should I shake the whisky up after decanting? I think I need to start buying several bottles at a time and then try one bottle with the argon one bottle with decanting and one bottle with nothing to see what the differences are.
@Pudge72 hahaha that is a good solution, but I have so many pretty bottles and to drink them all would mean they would be empty, which would make me sad and I don't like to be sad, because when I'm sad I'm not happy and when I'm not happy I'm sad.
Thanks for the help you two!! I REALLY appreciate the help!!

@SquidgyAsh: I do, most don't! If you bubble it into your decanter I can't see that it would be necessary.
Cheers & Good Luck. :)

I've resisted decanting up to now as most of my whiskies haven't oxidized too quickly, but one of my favorite bottles which I just cracked open (The Macallan 12 yr old FO) started extreme oxidizing inside of a couple of days which I thought was insane. Inside of a week it was a sweet thin whisky with quite a bit of problems pulling out the creamy sweetness that made me fall in love with it.
My friends I've caved. I'll decant. The problem. I cant find any bottles to decant into. I need a large steady supply of 50 to 200 mil bottles. My friends where do you get your bottles?! I'll order online happily but I need some bottles. Havent found anything locally or on ebay so any help you have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
